Work experience
Freelance Graphic designer and Illustrator
October 2012 - Present
I have focused on the graphic t-shirt market since the beginning, working with companies like Teefury, Qwertee, The Yetee, Othertees, RIPT Apparel, OUAT and many more. I’ve done licensed work for brands like Minecraft through J!NX.
I also do merchandise design for Youtube channels and other online personalities.
Apart from t-shirts I worked with local and remote businesses on their brand identities, doing logo design work and related stuff.
Skills
- Highly experienced using Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. Proficient with Adobe Premiere, Indesign, Lightroom.
- Skilled with graphic tablets, including traditional tablet monitors and also Ipad pro + Procreate.
- High proficiency using computers. In addition to being an “advanced user” I can learn to use new programs and processes very easily. Plus I type faster than 110 wpm.
- Light coding knowledge. I use HTML and CSS at a medium level.
- Native Spanish speaker. My English is good too.
Education
I’ve always been self-taught. After I finished art school in 2009, I thought I wanted to study sound engineering. I was wrong.
After two years of studies I left the course with a feeling of hopelessness. Luckily I realized that I had to dedicate my efforts to what I always loved and deep inside knew would be my profession: art.
I started designing t-shirts and selling the rights to several companies through the internet. I quickly learned all about screen printing, t-shirt design applied to Photoshop and Illustrator and popular trends. In about two months I earned my first paycheck and became financially independent at 20 years old.
Since then I always learned what I needed through practice and direct application of the knowledge in real projects. Although I started studies in Graphic design school, I ended up leaving, realizing that I could learn more and better on my own, not wasting my precious freelancer time on school work.
Later I not only learned new disciplines between graphic design (like brand identity or page layout), but also about web development: Git, HTML, CSS and Javascript.
I firmly believe there is no better education than a pursued interest. I could never stop learning new stuff.
Interests
- Drawing. Art was always a core part of my life.
- Mountaineering, rock climbing. It’s an inherited interest from my father. Mountains are where I experience true freedom.
- Video games, from an historic perspective. I enjoy emulating old systems, especially PCs (DOS, Windows95) and tinkering with it.
- Music. I played electric guitar in a rock band for many years.
